How I went from a Junk Food Connoisseur to a Clean-Living, Whole Foods Enthusiast

I wasn’t always concerned with taking good care of my temple, honoring God with my daily dietary and lifestyle choices, or even teaching other Christians about clean living. In fact, I did none of those things most of my life.

I gobbled up anything and everything in sight, rarely performed any form of exercise, and regularly stressed out like my life was in immediate danger.

If anyone could have learned from me back then it would have been a masterclass on how to set yourself up for a health disaster. Little did I know that is exactly what I was doing.

In my late twenties, when all of my negligent decisions came to a head, I was at the end of my rope. But, it wasn’t until the bottom fell out completely that I started searching for answers.

That’s when I did what I should have done from the very beginning…turn to God, seek his wisdom, and live in accordance to His Word.

So, I started praying for guidance – begging actually.

I asked God to show me what was wrong with me, and I SWORE if He would show me what I needed to do to get well and recover, that I would do ANYTHING.

Well, God kept up His end of this grand bargain. He spoke to me in ways that only He could, directing my steps, and leading me to the right people at the right time.

But, as it turns out, I wasn’t actually willing to do “anything” after all. The truth is that I didn’t want to give up my old habits and ways of living.

Getting well would require me to live counter to everything I knew and loved – to consistently walk a narrow and unpopular road.

I managed for a while, but after I started to feel better, I slowly slipped off the path He had shown me. Before I knew it, I ended up right back where I started.

Except this time, my health got much, much worse.

I won’t get into the details here, but the fact is, I’m blessed to be alive. After near-death experiences, an autoimmune diagnosis, suspicious masses, chronic conditions, multiple ER visits, and numerous other ailments, I finally surrendered.

At long last, I decided it was actually in my best interest to do what my Creator had instructed me to do.

God had already shown me the first step to recovery. As I started to walk in obedience, I got better.

With each step I took along the right path, he revealed even more simple, natural strategies on how to fully recover my health. My results have been nothing short of miraculous.

This is a journey that I am still on today.

The more I learn, the more I have wanted to learn. I have received formal education in general coaching through CoachU’s Core Essentials Fast Track Program™ (CEFTP)  and am certified as a holistic health coach through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. I’ve recently completed my studies as a Health Minister through Hallelujah Acres, and as a plant-based chef through Rouxbe’s Plant-Based Professional Cooking Course. I’m also a graduate of eCornell’s Plant-Based Nutrition Certificate Program.

I have read hundreds of books, attended dozens of courses, webinars and seminars, peppered leading functional medicine doctors with endless questions, and even went to work for other health coaches and holistic health organizations to learn everything I possibly could about health and wellness.

A few years ago I began working with friends, family, and any one else who would give me the time of day on how to get well using the Bible as a guide.

And they got AMAZING results, just like me.

Are you ready to take responsibility for your own health outcomes?

Dis-ease doesn’t ”just happen” to us. It’s the direct result of living lives out of alignment with God’s principles.

What we consume as food, the products we use, how we manage stress, and the quality of our relationships all impact our health one way or another.

Because many of us Christians are completely unaware of our disease-promoting lifestyles, we fail to take the necessary steps to achieve true health. We’ve bought into the commonly held belief that we have no control over how well our bodies function. The truth is we have more power over our own health and wellness outcomes than we imagine.

That power rests in understanding and obeying the natural laws God uses to govern his creation. God has left us a comprehensive roadmap to recover all aspects of our health – spiritually, emotionally, and physically…his Word.

It is time for the people of God to prioritize caring for our temples, so that we can accomplish everything that God has called us to do for his kingdom.
